PoP Campaign, Schadenfreude

Before you throw on your fancy hipster jacket, tie your newly polished dancing shoes and head out into your Friday night, we’d like to take the time to introduce you all to electronic producer outfit PoP Campaign.

The duo first broke into the mainstream last summer when Mixmag published a feature regarding their legendary parties in and around Berlin, and ever since the duo’s been hard at work in the studio completing their debut studio album.

If the name doesn’t sound familiar, then consider their philosophy: In their [PoP Campaign's] opinion, dance music has lost its soul. It is cold, calculated and completely driven by outside forces with no interest in music. They want to help restore the faith.

And restore the faith they have.

This stuff isn’t going to make a club go off, or your walls fall down–but it will challenge you to think, to expand your definition of ‘dance music’ and to see that with artists like PoP Campaign behind the wheel, the genre’s continuously evolving.

PoP Campaign’s debut LP, Krautpopping hits store shelves Valentine’s Day, and you can sample two of the releases singles, below.

The Sneekers – Splash EP

Posted in Featured Artists, Fresh Jams with tags , , , , , , on January 27, 2012 by thegetdownnn

Following the monster success of their Modern Pleasure EP, a release that got big support from the likes of  Etienne de Crecy, Mumbai Science and  Kissy Sell Out (and that’s just scratching the surface) … The Sneekers are back with a brand new EP, titled Splash (dolphin artwork and all) via GND Records.

The 3-track release is classified as techno, and aside from adjectives like infectious, wonky and otherworldly it’s a pretty apt description. An official release date is set for February 3rd, but the mini-mix we’re posting below gives you a pretty in-depth look into what The Sneekers have to offer.

Assuming you’re a DJ or party thrower that’s constantly looking to out do the competition with new music fitting for club peak time, than this is a release for you. Give it a spin below!

Stylus Rex, Amplify

Posted in Featured Artists, Fresh Jams with tags , , , on January 27, 2012 by thegetdownnn

Ground Level Records is kicking the New Year off with a full length album from breaks mastermind Stylus Rex, and already the 8-track monster is receiving some heavy praise. In fact, UK-based daily newspaper The Independent  has already named the album one of its critic’s choices for 2012. Not bad, seeing as how we’re only 27 days in, eh?

Twisted Spiral” kicks things off, with a wonky bass line, creepy vocal samples and a bevy of otherworldly sounds including a number of NIN-reminiscent effects, while tracks like “Subtexture” and “Blatant Elephant” really pump things up a notch, with racing beats, and original ideas galore.

Amplify, is an album that stands on its own–  Stylus Rex is a producer constantly pushing the dance envelope, in a world of releases that are often far too generic or straight up boring.

Check out the madness for yourself, and you like what you hear, make sure you swoop your own copy HERE

Pierce Fulton, Who Wants Spaghetti? (Original Mix)

Posted in Featured Artists, Fresh Jams with tags , , , on January 27, 2012 by thegetdownnn

Following the massive success of his debut release on Cr2 Records (Pardon My French EP) Pierce Fulton is back, with a very serious question on his mind, and that question is:

WHO WANTS SPAGHETTI?

Wait a second…that’s the title of his new song? Oops.

But seriously, who wants spaghetti?

A massive kick beat slowly evolves into silence, light electronic chords, some softly playing arpeggios and then a drop to rival all drops at the :54 second mark.

Italian food never sounded so good.

Classic Brothers – FYLB (Machinegewehr Remix)

Posted in Featured Artists, Fresh Jams with tags , , , , on January 26, 2012 by thegetdownnn

A new remix package consisting of A) classic, Classic Brothers remixes and B) Classic Bros remixes (from others) dropped this week, via Amsterdam-based dance imprint, Magnetron Music and tonight we’re presenting you with Machinegewehr‘s remix of FYLB–but listen with care, as it might just make your mind explode.

Although we can’t be absolutely certain, we’ve got a feeling that this very track was the inspiration for all of Lewis Carroll‘s classic fantasies, well if it traveled back in time that is.

A driving kick beat, bubble distortions, faint vocal samples and some really unique synths could easily find themselves at home in a world occupied by the Chesire Cat, a smoking catepillar and of course–talking Dodos.

Let’s FYLB–shall we?

Afrojack & Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me (Aylen Remix)

Posted in Featured Artists, Fresh Jams with tags , , on January 26, 2012 by thegetdownnn

Seems like you can’t go anywhere these days (internet wise) without seeing mention of Afrojack & Shermanology‘s “Can’t Stop Me” so, in continuing the theme of this week, we present you with a bootleg remix of said track from up-and-coming DJ/producer Aylen.

This version adds some minor distortion to the track, a long with some seriously cool electro additions that’ll make you cup your ear, and tilt your head toward the speakers in a “What was that? Say whaaaa!?” kind of way.

Listen. Download. Dance.

Silent Rider, Bloody War

Posted in Featured Artists, Fresh Jams with tags , , , , on January 26, 2012 by thegetdownnn

A title like “Bloody War” doesn’t exactly scream  electronic pop/rock, but as the old saying goes–you can’t judge a book by its cover–and that certainly applies in the case of Silent Rider‘s third original release, a beautifully crafted poptronic masterpiece featuring co-production and vocal work by Michael Santiago.

2012 is already looking like a HUGE year for Silent Rider (aka: Reed Kackley) as he’s in the process of both putting a live band together, and preparing for a full length album release come March.

If “Bloody War” is any indication of the LP to come, (and why wouldn’t it be?) then we’re making a request to the cosmos in the hopes of fast-forwarding through the entire month of February–Father time, you wanna get on that?

Infectious guitar-synth combinations, spot-on falsetto (ish) vocals and a snazzy beat await your ears.

REM – Losing My Religion (Tall Sasha 2012 Electro Bootleg)

Posted in Uncategorized on January 25, 2012 by thegetdownnn

Alt rock pioneers REM, broke up last year following a multi-decade run and plenty of great records, but that doesn’t mean  the name (or their stellar discography) will be forgotten anytime soon.

Case and point? San Francisco-based up-and-comer Tall Sasha‘s latest bootleg effort, a stellar almost progressive house sounding remix of “Losing My Religion”.

Following the same pattern that’s already established Sasha as an artist to watch (take classic track, magnify original’s best traits, add multiple instruments, beats and sound effects to complement those awesome traits with a Tall Sasha touch– repeat) this version of ”Losing My Religion” gives the classic track a new lease on life.

Some might call dabbling with such a classic blasphemous, but with an already proven track record featuring remixes of Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Nine Inch NailsCloser” –Tall Sasha’s a name all of you dance fiends can trust.
